After-School Music Lessons
We are proud to offer music lessons with a diverse array of talented musicians who are also dedicated teachers as part of our after-school offerings.
Among Durham Academy's music faculty are professional recording artists, faculty members at colleges and universities, and graduates with advanced music degrees from esteemed institutions. But most importantly, this group of active performing musicians is made up of committed educators who are excited to inspire music-making in their students while also building skills to establish a sound technical foundation.
Once you are scheduled for a lesson, your child’s teacher will advise you on which books to purchase for lessons, as well as instrument requirements. While students are not required to perform, concerts are arranged for those who wish to participate and are a terrific way for students to share their work with their friends and family.
Trying to determine which instrument to start your child on? Interested in a lesson on an instrument not listed? Not sure if your child should begin with group or private lessons? Please email After-School Music Coordinator Jackie Nappi.
All music lessons are currently conducted remotely while we continue to explore how to safely resume in-person classes.
We offer private lessons in piano, guitar/ukulele, woodwinds, brass, strings, percussion and more. All private lessons are $40 for a 30-minute lesson. We recommend that all beginner students start with a 30-minute lesson. Longer lessons may be arranged for more advanced students. Registration for private music lessons is for the whole school year (unlike group lessons and other after-school Enrichments). Email Jackie Nappi with questions and to arrange for private lessons.
While private lessons offer a unique option for a one-on-one relationship between a child and a teacher, some students prefer the social setting of a group lesson, and some instruments are quite conducive to a group experience, particularly for a beginner. Group lessons and Jam Bands are coordinated for piano, guitar, ukulele, recorder, chorus and Orff Ensemble. These groups are scheduled and billed by the semester, the same as other After-School Enrichment classes. You can register for group lessons online through your Veracross Parent Portal. Email Enrichment Coordinator Elliott Turnbull with questions.
