Lower School After-School Programs

Our Lower School after-school programs provide a safe, fun and supportive environment for building long-lasting positive relationships with peers, teachers and families. Children have the opportunity to broaden their interests and develop their problem-solving capacities, while expanding their creative self-expression.

Lower School children may attend Extended Day from 2:45–6 p.m. Children will have time to enjoy their snack, complete homework and participate in indoor and outside play during this time. After-School Enrichment options are also available from 2:45–4 p.m. (unless otherwise noted).

Extended Day students transition to their grade-level classrooms at 2:45 p.m. Lower School students may be enrolled in Extended Day for five days per week or may drop in as needed. For questions about Lower School Extended Day, please contact Dan Gilson.

Students with a five-day Extended Day contract may attend Extended Day on the four All-Day Care days and the four early dismissal days at no additional charge.

After-School Enrichments

After-School Enrichments for Lower Schoolers offer a wonderful range of opportunities for ease and exploration after a full school day. These classes are intended to be an exploration of a creative subject or sport without goals of deep study or mastery — although physical and mental resilience and contentedness may result. Options may include art, chorus, chess, piano, guitar, violin, STEM/STEAM, sports, chess, martial arts, Girls On The Run, fencing, Minecraft, yoga and much more. Lower School After-School Enrichments run from 2:45–4 p.m. (unless otherwise noted).

Lower Schoolers enrolled in an After-School Enrichment meet their instructor directly after school. Pick-up is in the 4 p.m. Lower School main entrance car line. Extended Day drop-in after an After-School Enrichment is $25.

We are also proud to offer group and individual music lessons with a diverse array of talented musicians who are also dedicated teachers.

All-Day Care and Half-Day Care

If you need childcare on a day when school is not in session due to parent conferences or faculty work days, we offer All-Day Care. We also provide care for children on Early Dismissal Days throughout the school year. These days are filled with lots of fun activities and allow working parents to better manage their schedules.

All-Day Care

On All-Day Care days, we open our doors at the Lower School Extended Day classroom at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Please remember to sign your children in and out when you arrive and at pick-up. No advance notice to attend is required; simply show up and sign in.

On Half-Day Care days, we will run the program as usual but with an earlier opening time. Please notify your child’s teacher and email dan.gilson@da.org if you would like to drop in on these half days.
