The closer the metal object gets to the coil the higher the pitch of the tone emitted from the speaker so you have an idea of how deeply buried the object is! And with Arduino, unlike the basic drag-and-drop programming taught in LEGO and other robotics camps, students will learn a real programming language used in industry by real engineers. Ninja Camp: Martial Arts and Classical Japanese Sword (2-6) **FULL**

*WEEK 5 IS FULL*
The ninja may seem mysterious, but the origin of their name is not. The word 忍者 ninja derives from the Japanese characters "nin" and "sha,” literally meaning “person who perseveres,” but over time legend led it to mean, "one who hides or conceals" or "one who moves stealthily." The ninja originated in the mountains of Japan over 800 years ago as clandestine practitioners of ninjutsu, the martial art of invisibility deception. The ninja operated as military spies and trained in disguise, concealment, geography, meteorology, medicine, and combat. It was their unique skill set and unstoppable spirit that formed the legend of the ninja as we know it today. Do you want to be a ninja??

Join us to discover why Carabosse casts her magic spell! Inspired by the classic story ballet we will learn dances from the story ballet danced to the beautiful music by Tchaikovsky. This week, your camper will learn how to tell a story using classical ballet mime, dance with the fairies to save the sleeping princess and learn the garland waltz dances. Each day your camper will enjoy a dance lesson, craft time and choreography. Crafts will be used in our show and go home at the end of the week. On Friday we will present a short, informal showcase for family and friends.

Treasure Quest

Young geologists will join DA Upper School science teacher Howard Lineberger and experience the thrills of discovering hidden crystals, gemstones, precious metals, fossils and unusual rock samples each day as we prospect for treasure. Our quest will employ the methods of the "Old Timers" and the "New Timers" who once (and still do) combed (comb) the hills and streams of gem and mineral-rich North Carolina. Campers will search for treasure via sieves, pans metal detecting, and geocaching and can keep what they find.

Ultrasonic Maze Solving Robot

Imagine building an autonomous vehicle that uses sound waves to avoid collisions and find its way out of a maze all by itself! Learn how sound can be used to measure distance, add ultrasonic sensors to the robot, and program it to detect and avoid obstacles in its path. But avoiding obstacles is just the first step — the real challenge is figuring out how to navigate and solve a maze! And with Arduino, unlike the basic drag-and-drop programming taught in LEGO and other robotics camps, students will learn areal programming language used in industry by real engineers. No programming or Arduino experience is necessary.
