Camp Evergreen: Ages 4–13

9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (Before Care & After Care available)

Imagine the quintessential overnight camp experience — bonding with cabinmates, aiming for archery targets, gleefully slipping down waterslides, and strengthening creative and academic muscles — but enjoying the comfort of your own bed each night. That’s the beauty of Durham Academy Summer’s Camp Evergreen, an all-day camp experience for ages 4–13 here in the Bull City.

Registration for Camp Evergreen 2025 is Open!

Camp Evergreen Cabins

Campers form connections with new friends in their “cabin,” a close-knit group that explores Camp Evergreen’s cabin rotations together — art, sports & outdoors, and wellness. Each afternoon, campers choose an area to take a deeper dive for the week — from technology to art studio — with similar-aged campers from other cabins. Serving as the cornerstone of DA Summer, Camp Evergreen assures that your child will have a blast acquiring new skills, honing existing ones, and becoming an integral part of our camp community.

Our Camp Staff

All activities are grounded in Durham Academy’s mission to prepare children for moral, happy, productive lives. Camp Evergreen is led by coordinators who are experienced faculty at Durham Academy. Our rotation specialists are teachers and teaching assistants at Durham Academy. And each cabin is led by experienced high school counselors who are properly trained in classroom management, communication skills and empathy! Each cabin will have a lead counselor, assistant counselor, and counselor in training. Our high school counselors serve as terrific role models for our younger campers!

Evergreen Teen Scene (New in 2025!)

Evergreen Teen Scene is designed to immerse campers in a variety of fun and inclusive activities that are tailored specifically to the ages and interests of students entering grades 6 to 8. Teen Scene campers will jump into hands-on learning opportunities that foster creativity and critical thinking skills. Programming includes structured activities, open recreation and local field trips.

Teen Scene campers will be led by a counselor who is 25 years or older (paired with college-aged assistants), guiding them through creative innovation, problem solving and teamwork.

Cabin Rotations

Members of each cabin attend camp meetings together, participate in rotations as a group, and enjoy lunch together. Campers explore each of the following areas with their cabinmates each week, even as Camp Evergreen's overall theme changes from week to week — keeping things fresh for repeat campers! Each day's schedule includes time for cabin rotations for 2 hours each morning, plus 1 hour after lunch.

Afternoon Options

Campers choose a particular area to explore for the week during the daily Afternoon Options session. This daily two-hour session allows for campers to take deep dives into their interests. In this session, campers will be grouped with similarly aged children — some from their own cabin, and some from other cabins. If your camper chooses the same option for multiple weeks, they'll have a fresh experience each time, as we have different programming planned for each week.
