Endowment

Endowments distinguish the most successful independent schools. Durham Academy is grateful to the alumni, parents and friends who have established endowment funds to provide lasting support in service of the school’s mission. Endowed funds provide stability as they support the school on an annual basis in perpetuity. If you are interested in learning more about endowed funds, contact a member of the Philanthropy Team.

DA’s endowment comprises various restricted and unrestricted endowment and scholarship funds. As an aggregate, this fund generates annual income that flows into the operation of the school and primarily supports faculty development, financial aid and facility maintenance. The portfolio is invested with Eton Partners under the direction of the finance committee of the Board of Trustees and aims to maximize investment returns without exposure to undue risk. Between 2–4.5% of the previous 12-quarter rolling average of the endowment fund is spent each year in support of the operating fund. The spending rate is determined by calculating the real dollar return of the portfolio less inflation.

Andy Crawford and Family

Our mother’s dedicated commitment to the school through her work and contributions engendered a deeper relationship that we want to continue to reward over time through an endowment fund we established in her memory.Andy Crawford ’97 (pictured here with his family) and Matt Crawford ’99
