Upper School Extracurricular music groups

XIV Hours

XIV Hours is Durham Academy's auditioned co-ed a cappella group. The extracurricular vocal group won first place at the SingStrong a cappella competition in March 2012 and traveled to Nashville to audition for NBC's "The Sing-Off" in 2011. Upper school student members meet on weekends for rehearsals.

Acapocalypse is DA's larger extracurricular a cappella performance ensemble, including between 70-80 students and several faculty members. The group rehearses once a week during lunch.

The A Cappella Jam

The A Cappella Jam is a vocal performance event hosted every January by Durham Academy, DA Parents Council and DA's WISER Club. Vocal groups from Triangle-area high schools and colleges and beyond join XIV Hours and Acapocalypse for a great night of music for a great cause: WISER, an organization founded at Duke that works to improve the lives of women in the Muhuru Bay area of Kenya. Durham Academy has partnered with WISER since its founding in 2007.
