Upper School Drama

Durham Academy's Upper School drama program offers multiple year-long courses and semester-long classes that expose students to a broad spectrum of dramatic pursuits. Courses include Acting Studio and Advanced Scene Study, Playwriting, Screenwriting, Technical Theatre and Stage Management and Direction.

Students learn how to develop fundamental acting skills and characters, learn dramatic writing, explore the technical skills involved in writing their own screenplay, and gain hands-on experience in stage management and production.

Performances include a fall play and a winter musical each year. Recent productions at Durham Academy have included plays Picasso and the Lapin Agile, The Importance of Being Earnest and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee; and musicals Fiddler on the Roof, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Urinetown. In addition, the drama program typically stages a student-directed production each spring.
