Parents Association & Parents Council
The Durham Academy Parents Association supports the school's academic, social, fine arts and athletic objectives. Parents Association encourages volunteerism, raises and disperses funds, promotes communication and cooperation, and provides input to the school on issues of concern and interest to parents. All Durham Academy parents are members of the Parents Association.
The Durham Academy Parents Council is the governing board of the Parents Association. This group comprises members of an executive committee; division representatives; members of schoolwide committees on matters such as diversity, wellness and athletics; and parents who organize both community-building and fundraising events. See a list of the parents who serve on Parents Council.
Parents Bulletin Board
In early September, more than 4,000 Durham Academy constituents representing current parents, faculty, staff, alumni and Upper School students received a quantitative online survey created by The Link Group to engage input, identify priorities and assess support for initiatives for the 2014-2015 Strategic Plan. More than 1,100 respondents completed the survey.
The Durham Academy Strategic Planning Committee is delighted to share the survey results with you. Click here to access the survey through the parent portal on the DA website. Please keep in mind that the survey results represent just one of many layers of input and feedback that will identify and prioritize the key strategic issues facing DA. Additional sources include the following:
- Sixteen listening sessions with parents, Middle and Upper School students; alumni in Durham, San Francisco and New York; parents of alumni; faculty and staff; board trustees; and school administrators. The results of the listening sessions will be shared after the completion of the last alumni session in Boston on Nov. 20.
- An Oct. 22 retreat attended by the school’s administrative team, Board of Trustees and Strategic Planning Committee.
- A planned January retreat involving multiple DA constituencies with close to 60 attendees.
All of these inputs will be considered in the writing of a strategic plan submitted for board consideration in April.
