Parents Association & Parents Council

The Durham Academy Parents Association supports the school's academic, social, fine arts and athletic objectives. Parents Association encourages volunteerism, raises and disperses funds, promotes communication and cooperation, and provides input to the school on issues of concern and interest to parents. All Durham Academy parents are members of the Parents Association.

The Durham Academy Parents Council is the governing board of the Parents Association. This group comprises members of an executive committee; division representatives; members of schoolwide committees on matters such as diversity, wellness and athletics; and parents who organize both community-building and fundraising events. See a list of the parents who serve on Parents Council.

Magnificent Community Assembly Recognizes Upper Schoolers' Character
Posted 03/21/2019 02:08PM

Durham Academy's mission is to "provide each student with an education that will enable him or her to live a moral, happy and productive life." Defining just what that means is The Durham Academy Graduate: A Mission-Driven Life, DA’s schoolwide definition of good character in the form of 15 character traits.

Moral: empathy, kindness, integrity, responsibility, courage
Happy: curiosity, engagement, authenticity, joy, balance
Productive: creativity, drive, resilience, generosity, wisdom

These traits were at the center of the Upper School’s annual Magnificent Community awards assembly on March 8, with 11 students and four faculty members recognized by their peers for exemplifying one or more of the characteristics.
