Parents Association & Parents Council
The Durham Academy Parents Association supports the school's academic, social, fine arts and athletic objectives. Parents Association encourages volunteerism, raises and disperses funds, promotes communication and cooperation, and provides input to the school on issues of concern and interest to parents. All Durham Academy parents are members of the Parents Association.
The Durham Academy Parents Council is the governing board of the Parents Association. This group comprises members of an executive committee; division representatives; members of schoolwide committees on matters such as diversity, wellness and athletics; and parents who organize both community-building and fundraising events. Parents Bulletin Board
The student in need of a host family is a 14-year-old boy who will be turning 15 during his stay in the U.S. This would not involve travel to Spain, but only hosting locally. The student's English is intermediate and he will be practicing it during his stay, so hosts do not necessarily need to be Spanish speakers.
Welcoming a foreign student into a family is an opportunity to make a friend, get insight into alternative perspectives, and practice language skills. Hosting will require that the student has his own bed (he can share a room with a host sibling of the same gender) and that he has transportation to and from school.
Host families provide meals except those eaten out on school-sponsored excursions, and guests may want to try a lunch from a food truck at school, which they would be responsible for purchasing.
