DA tennis reached the halfway point of the season with a 7-2 win over a strong Greensboro Day team on Monday afternoon. The Cavs used their bottom of the lineup today to rack up wins at 2nd and 3rd doubles, and 3-6 singles before junior Joy Callwood completed a three set comeback on court 1. DA is now 9-1 heading into tomorrow's TISAC battle with Ravenscroft. The Cavs jumped out to early leads at 2nd and 3rd doubles with Callwood and Renee George winning 8-2 at 2 and Nicole Riepl and Julia King taking an 8-3 win on court 3. On the top court, Alexis Galloway and Madeline Towning led 2-0 before losing the next 5 games. Trailing 4-7, they rallied to cut it to 6-7 but could not come all the way back in an 8-6 loss. In singles play, Towning was the first one off as her opponent had to retire after Towning took a 6-1 opening set. Taylor Hunter at 5 and then Riepl at 6 closed out the team win with straight set wins. George battled back from 3-4 down in the second to take a 6-1, 6-4 win on court 4. Galloway could not find her game today in a 6-4, 6-0 loss on 2. Callwood trailed a set and 4-3 before rallying for the 6-4, 10-8 win.
