In what coach Crawford Leavoy describes as "an amazing feat" that's a first in the 15-year history of the Durham Academy speech and debate program, the team was honored with the Kurt Earnest Award of Excellence in Speech at the Tarheel Forensic League State Championship Tournament, where the team was also named overall runner-up for the second consecutive year. The state tournament was held Saturday and Sunday at Charlotte's Myers Park High School.

The Durham Academy speech and debate program hosted the Tarheel East District Tournament from March 23 to 24. It was DA's second time playing host to the tournament, in which members of 22 of the state's most talented teams vie for berths in the National Speech and Debate Association's (NSDA) national tournament. Sixteen DA students have qualified for nationals.

DA Giving Day 2019 marked an astounding day of generosity! Widespread participation from all corners of the Durham Academy community — parents, faculty, staff, alumni, grandparents, parents of alumni and friends — exceeded all expectations on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, 1,083 donors in 30 states (as well as the Netherlands and the UK!) had generously contributed $165,569 to support the Durham Academy Fund. Several gifts even trickled in on Thursday, which pushed the totals to 1,084 donors and $168,569 raised!

Durham Academy's XIV Hours is hosting the 12th annual WISER A Cappella Jam in Kenan Auditorium. The A Cappella Jam is a fundraiser for WISER (Women's Institute of Secondary Education & Research), an organization founded at Duke University to improve the health and education of women in the Muhuru Bay area of Kenya.

The national high school lacrosse spotlight will turn to the Triangle area of North Carolina once again in March as 38 of North America's top boys and girls high school lacrosse teams compete in the 11th annual Brine King of Spring Face-Off Classic, scheduled for March 7–10, 2019, in the Triangle area.

Tuesday, March 5, marks Durham Academy's largest single-day fundraising effort, DA Giving Day, a 24-hour fundraising event where everyone in the DA community — parents, teachers, staff, grandparents, alumni and parents of alumni — come together to support the school through gifts to the Durham Academy Fund.

The 2018–2019 season has been one to remember for Durham Academy's winter teams, with the boys and girls hoops teams posting history-making seasons, and the boys and girls swim teams making a splash with top-eight finishes in the state swim meet.
