New Faces Join Durham Academy Faculty and Staff
Anne Andrews
Enrollment Management Administrative Assistant
Andrews joined the Enrollment Management team in fall 2021. She came to DA from the UNC School of Law Admissions Office. She has lived in California, Connecticut and New York, where she managed and coordinated a $90 billion housing program for New York City. She is a graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
Hunter Babwah
School Health Director
Babwah joined the DA health team as consulting nurse in fall 2021, and she takes on the full-time role of school health director starting with the 2022–2023 school year. She has served as a nurse for pediatric patients at UNC Hospitals and also has been a family nurse practitioner in Henderson. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.S.N. in nursing and from Spring Arbor University with an M.S.N.
Dr. Jennifer Boehm
Middle School Language Arts Teacher
Boehm has 10 years of teaching experience in English and linguistics at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she has been a writing coordinator, a reading teacher and a research consultant. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in linguistics and anthropology, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in linguistics.
Meg Bronneck
Executive Assistant to the Head of School and Assistant Head of School
Bronneck most recently served as chief of staff and vice president, compliance and risk at Coverys in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned a B.A. from Wake Forest University, an M.A. from George Washington University, a J.D. from West Virginia School of Law and an LL.M. from Boston University School of Law.
Paul Edghill
Upper School Theatre Technical Director
Edghill came to DA as interim technical theatre director during the 2021–2022 school year. He graduated from East Carolina University with a B.F.A. in design and production and from UNC-Chapel Hill with an M.F.A. in technical production. He has worked with theatre programs at Campbell University and UNC-Chapel Hill.
Alexandra Eren
Middle School Science Teacher and Advisor
Eren has more than 11 years teaching experience, including at Odyssey School in Asheville and Potomac Lighthouse Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. She earned a B.S. in natural resources conservation and environmental education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Caroline Farrell
Associate Director of Enrollment Management
Farrell has served as director of enrollment management at The Montessori School of Raleigh and Admission Director of Dwight School in Seoul, Korea. She graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in international relations and from New York University with an M.A. in early childhood and elementary education.
Dr. Brian Fennessy
Upper School History Teacher
Fennessy has taught at the University of Richmond, Elon University and UNC-Chapel Hill. He earned a B.A. in history, summa cum laude from the University of the South, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in U.S. history from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Dr. Concepción Grande González
Middle School Spanish Teacher and Advisor
Grande González came to DA as an interim Spanish teacher in spring 2022. She has 28 years of teaching experience, including at The Brandeis School of San Francisco and German International School of Silicon Valley. She earned a B.A. from the University of Salamanca, Spain, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts.
Erika Greene
Upper School Mathematics Teacher and Advisor
Greene has eight years of teaching experience, including at Providence Academy in Minnesota; Juan Diego Catholic High School in Utah; and Maryknoll School in Hawaii. She earned a B.S. from the University of Puget Sound and an M.A. from Western Governors University.
Zhengjie Guo
Middle School and Upper School Mandarin Chinese Teacher
Guo joined the Durham Academy community in January 2022. She has 13 years of teaching experience in Connecticut and Indiana, and was named Teacher of the Year by the Connecticut Chinese Language Academy. She earned an M.A. in education from the University of Saint Joseph.
Dr. Krishinda Lee ’04
Upper School Physical Education Teacher
Lee is a 2004 graduate of Durham Academy. She earned a B.A. in exercise and sport science from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Duke University School of Medicine. Lee has 11 years of experience in physical therapy and fitness training.
Christine Lunsford
Assistant Director of Annual Philanthropy
Lunsford has served as director of alumni relations at Friends Academy in Locust Valley, New York; director of development at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University; and annual fund director at The Brearley School in New York City. She is a graduate of Hofstra, where she earned a B.A. in dance and an M.B.A. in management.
Jason Mundy
Director of Diversity, Equity and Engagement
Mundy has 25 years of experience at independent schools, including service as associate headmaster and head of upper school at Norfolk Collegiate School. Since 2016, he has been director of equity and community engagement at Kent Denver School in Englewood, Colorado. He earned a B.A. in history from Duke University and an M.A. in liberal studies from Wesleyan University.
Michelle Park
Kindergarten Teaching Assistant
Park comes to Durham Academy from New Hope Elementary School in Chapel Hill, where she had 28 years of experience as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher and as an English language development specialist. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in early childhood education and a master’s degree in early childhood intervention and family support.
Dr. John Phillips
Upper School History and Latin Teacher and Advisor
Phillips has been a teaching fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill and was a long-term substitute teacher at DA. He graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in philosophy and from UNC-Chapel Hill with an M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy. He was one of 65 doctoral students nationwide to be awarded a $30,000 Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship.
Mary Scott Rawlins
First-Grade Teacher
Rawlins has eight years of teaching experience, and since 2017 has taught at Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School in Washington, D.C. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in elementary education and from Lesley University with a master’s degree in elementary education. She is a graduate of Forsyth Country Day School.
Kayla Richardson-Piché
Lower School Music Teacher
Richardson-Piché was an Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholar at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance and a minor in creative writing. She has experience as education administrator at Judea Reform Congregation and as a teacher of piano, ukulele, guitar and voice at Amanda Bailey Studios.
Clark Robinson
Athletics Operations and Administrative Assistant, Sports Information Director
Robinson graduated from Georgetown College with a B.S. in kinesiology and from the University of Kentucky with an M.S. in sport leadership. Since 2018, he has worked as sports information supervisor and athletics administrative assistant with a school district in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area with 34 varsity programs and 700 student athletes.
Stephanie Rudolph
Middle School Spanish Teacher
Rudolph has 13 years of teaching experience, including serving as an interim Spanish teacher at DA Middle School during the 2021–2022 school year. She is a cum laude graduate of Boston University with a B.A. in Hispanic language and literature, and holds an M.A. in Hispanic literature from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Sonia Salas Chaparro
Middle School Spanish Teacher
Salas Chaparro has 13 years of teaching experience, including service as an interim Spanish teacher at Durham Academy Upper School and a substitute teacher at the Middle School. She has also taught elementary school students in Fayetteville, where she was named her school’s teacher of the year. She holds a bachelor's degree from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional and a master’s degree from Universidad de Artes y Ciencias Sociales.
Mike Schollmeyer
Middle School Science Teacher and Advisor
Schollmeyer taught science at Maureen Joy Charter School for six years and also has been a summer instructor at the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics. Prior to entering teaching, he had a 32-year business career. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College with a B.A. in economics and earned his teacher’s certification from Relay Graduate School of Education.
Marcela Siqueira
Preschool Teaching Assistant
Siqueira has 11 years of teaching experience in Chapel Hill and Brazil and also has experience in bilingual schools. She is a graduate of Mackenzie Presbyterian University (Brazil) with a bachelor of education degree.
Beth Throop ’06
Third-Grade Teacher
A 2006 graduate of Durham Academy, Throop worked at DA from 2015–2021 as a teaching assistant and as Lower School administrative assistant. She is a cum laude graduate of Kenyon College with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and holds a Master of Arts in teaching, with a focus in elementary education, from N.C. State University.
Shayna Willis
First-Grade Teacher
Willis has taught at Excelsior Classical Academy and Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill. In addition, she was a principal intern at Club Boulevard Humanities Elementary and assistant principal intern at Sandy Ridge Elementary. A graduate of North Carolina Central University, she holds a B.S. in biology, a B.A. in elementary education and an M.S. in education administration.
