COVID-19 DA Family Support Fund

We have been heartened by the many members of our community who have asked how they can help fellow Cavalier families. DA is committed to supporting families who are most affected by the economic consequences of the pandemic. We are committed to keeping our families enrolled and keeping our students connected to their learning, social and emotional community.

This pandemic has caused uncertainty and anxiety, but in addition to the challenges currently facing our community, some DA families are now facing the added burden of financial stress. The COVID-19 DA Family Support Fund was created to enable one-time, emergency tuition assistance for families experiencing financial hardship related directly or indirectly to COVID-19.

In order to ensure that financial hardship will not result in families having to leave the school, we will need to increase our financial aid budget significantly. This fund will allow us to care for our students and families and keep the Cavalier community intact.

How to Help

There are two ways you can make an impact, and gifts at all levels are appreciated. For families who are able to give, please follow this link to our online giving form. Through your gift to the COVID-19 DA Family Support Fund, you are sustaining the #DAFamily. You may also mail a check to the Office of Philanthropy (3601 Ridge Rd., Durham, 27705) with COVID-19 in the memo line or make gifts of securities.

You can also make a gift to the Durham Academy Fund, which bridges the gap between tuition and the true cost of a DA education. During this time of crisis, the generosity of the DA community supports the school’s commitment to academic excellence by providing robust online learning for students and maintaining full salaries for faculty and staff, including hourly employees.

If you have the ability to be generous, we are grateful for any gift, regardless of size.

How to Apply for Support

Families who are facing financial hardship or anticipate a loss of income can reach out at any time by contacting Kemi Nonez and DA’s Enrollment Management team at covidsupport@da.org. Any family can apply for one-time emergency tuition assistance, including those who did not qualify for aid when they re-enrolled. Families who currently receive financial assistance, but may require one-time additional assistance, may also apply.

Because these grants are need-based, we ask that families submit an aid application for the 2020–2021 academic year by May 15. Visit www.mytads.com and click on “Financial Aid Assessment.” We anticipate families’ needs will change as the economic repercussions of the pandemic continue to unfold in the months ahead. Please contact us at any point. Someone will be in touch directly to discuss your particular circumstances and work together to find a solution.

“DA has always been synonymous with community and family. We celebrate our successes together and provide support in times of loss. The pandemic is threatening to disrupt our family structure and could prevent some families from remaining in our community. If you are able, we encourage you to support the COVID-19 Family Support Fund. A gift on your part, big or small, could mean the difference to our DA family for the upcoming school year.”
