| Finding perfect-fit schools is at the heart of DA college counseling program Gathered on the Upper School quad for a group photo, the 100 members of Durham Academy's Class of 2016 wear T-shirts representing the next chapter in their lives, the 50 different colleges and universities they will attend in the fall. After a few snaps of the camera, a woman emerges from the crowd, and the soon-to-be alumni erupt into wild cheers. Why the enthusiasm? This woman, Co-Director of College Counseling Kathy Cleaver, helped ensure that each shirt was just the right fit, just the right shade of red, blue, purple or orange. | Battle of the Books team closes book on best season in history The greatest competitive advantage for members of Durham Academy's Battle of the Books team is also a bit of vulnerability — a deep passion for reading. Such a voracious appetite for the written word means that reading the 27 required books wasn't a chore for them. But it also meant mentally sifting through the hundreds of books they've read in their lifetimes when given just 20 seconds to connect a small detail with one of the 27 Battle of the Books titles. Read More Faculty Spotlight: Upper School Chinese teacher Bonnie Wang Bonnie Wang began studying English as a 6-year-old in Changchun, a city of 3.4 million people in Jilin Province, an area of Northeast China that shares a border with North Korea. She spent 20 years in her hometown and grew up thinking she would teach English there. But her world was turned upside down when she came to Portland State University for her last two years of college, and she has found her passion teaching Chinese language in America.
