French students, third-graders team up in identity exploration project On the surface, it can be easy to see differences from one person to the next — a spectrum of skin tones, varying accents, age differences. But if you take a few minutes to have a conversation with someone, to learn about his or her family and interests, you just might find that we're more alike than we are different. That's what Durham Academy AP French students and third-graders discovered through Photo de Classe, an audiovisual project through which the older students facilitated an exploration of their younger classmates' identities via interviews. | Story Walk: Enjoy the wonder of a good story and the outdoors Want to enjoy a gorgeous fall day, get some exercise and have a fun time with your kids? Then put Story Walk on your calendar for 2 to 4 p.m. this Saturday. The Durham Academy and Carolina Friends School lower school libraries invite families to Eno River State Park to hike and read The Gruffalo, a story about a tiny mouse that encounters a fox, an owl and a snake while walking through the woods. Laminated pages from the book will be mounted on 26 stakes posted along the Eno Trace Trail, a half-mile hike that includes enough steps and slippery slopes to let kids know they are on an adventure. Faculty Spotlight: Upper School physics teacher Meg McNall Ask Meg McNall about teaching at Durham Academy and you'll get this reply: "I feel guilty for cashing my paycheck." McNall was working toward a Ph.D. in civil engineering and materials science at Princeton, decided to leave after earning her B.S.E. and M.S.E. and couldn’t be happier than to be teaching high school science.
