Documentary screening to look at

racism through eyes of teens

What if the next generation could transcend racism? To do that, they have to confront and understand the roots of systemic racism by examining the ripple effects of race, power, class and privilege on their own lives. I’m Not Racist … Am I? is a documentary that follows 12 diverse New York City teens tackling those issues through workshops and often tense and painful conversations with their friends and family over the course of an entire year. Durham Academy will host a screening of the film on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 6:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session with one of the filmmakers. Read More

Laura Suchoski encouraged Upper Schoolers to harness the power of platforms like Twitter and Instagram to reflect their true selves at an assembly Feb. 10. Read More

Gordon Korman inspires students

with his history as youth writer

When Gordon Korman was 12 years old, he wrote a book as part of a seventh-grade writing assignment, which isn't entirely unusual in and of itself. What makes this particular project unique is that the book was actually published, the prolific author of young-adult literature said at an assembly at Durham Academy Middle School's Taylor Hall on Monday — prompting the jaws of the 300 or so assembled students to drop. Read More
