Four senior student-athletes sign letters

of intent to compete in college athletics

Ear-to-ear smiles and a staccato rhythm of snapping camera shutters set the scene in the lobby of Kirby Gym on Wednesday as four Durham Academy seniors signed letters of intent to compete in Division I college athletics.

Jordan Barry will play field hockey for Stanford University; Eliza Dekker will run cross country for Dartmouth College; Chloë Lewis will play lacrosse for Duke University; and Anna Wears will play golf for Wake Forest University.

"Everybody standing here is really, really proud of you all," DA Athletic Director Steve Engebretsen said at the signing ceremony. Read More

 
             

 

 

Lower School plant detectives

unearth tropical mystery

This fall, the Lower School's garden yielded its own mysterious bloom. The identity and origin of our mystery plants befuddled many members of our DA community. Our surprise opportunity for discovery and collaboration brought together teachers, staff, parents and professionals to solve our foliage riddle. Read More

 

Strategic Plan survey results

In early September, more than 4,000 Durham Academy constituents representing current parents, faculty, staff, alumni and Upper School students received a quantitative online survey created by The Link Group to engage input, identify priorities and assess support for initiatives for the 2014-2015 Strategic Plan. More than 1,100 respondents completed the survey, and the results are in. Read More

 

In The Pocket concert Saturday

to aid Stop Hunger Now efforts

Durham Academy's Upper School jazz-rock ensemble In The Pocket and Stop Hunger Now club are helping to end world hunger one high note and guitar solo at a time. Saturday's annual benefit show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 15 in Kenan Auditorium. Read More

 

Admissions tours continue;

financial aid session is Nov. 24

Interest is strong for the 2015-2016 school year at Durham Academy. The Middle School tour and information sessions held earlier this month drew 45 to 55 attendees for each of the two sessions, and the Nov. 6 Preschool and Lower School tour attracted more than 100 attendees. Read More

 

Swimmers dominate in St. Croix

For the third year in a row, members of the Durham Academy swim team left behind the fall chill of North Carolina for the sunny skies of the U.S. Virgin Islands, where they splashed away the competition in the annual St. Croix Coral Reef Swim on Nov. 9. Read More

 

Save the date for DA Hockey Night

Mark your calendar for a fun-filled night of hockey on Sunday, March 29! The Carolina Hurricanes take on the Boston Bruins in this game beginning at 5 p.m. at PNC Arena, and Durham Academy families are invited to enjoy the game from special sections. Stay tuned for details on ordering tickets and a pre-game reception.

 

Turkey Trot is just around the bend

The fifth annual Turkey Trot 5K and Fun Run is less than two days away, and the weather forecast is perfect for a morning of running — brisk and sunny!

Participants who have already registered can pick up their packets in front of Kenan Auditorium on Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or on the morning of race day. Those who have not yet registered may do so at packet pick-up times (cash or check only). Read More
