Spanish exchange offers students from

both sides of the pond a new perspective

Durham Academy works to shape students into global learners in myriad ways, and one of the most concrete examples of this is the school's biennial exchange with Madre de Dios school in Madrid. 

On Aug. 31, 18 adventurous Spaniards — 16 students and two chaperones — touched down at Raleigh-Durham International Airport to a chorus of cheers from a welcoming committee of host families. From there, the visitors and host students embarked on what will be, when it's all said and done, a 19-day adventure with a decidedly North Carolina flavor. Read More

Have you met Mat Man?

If you hear a Durham Academy Preschooler talking about Mat Man, it’s not a new “imaginary friend.” Mat Man is a character DA Preschool teachers use in the handwriting program; he’s built from wood pieces that help teach letter formation. It’s a gentle approach, and one the kids seem to embrace. Read More

 

16 seniors are named

National Merit semifinalists

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognized 16 Durham Academy seniors as semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program on Wednesday. The semifinalist pool is one of the largest in DA history, said Kathy Cleaver, co-director of College Counseling. Read More

fun at Sept. 21 All-School Picnic 

The entire Durham Academy community — students, parents, siblings, faculty and staff — is invited to attend the All-School Picnic, set for Sunday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Lower School grounds. Read More

 

School Tool Box fundraiser is a hit

The first year of Durham Academy Parents Association's School Tool Box fundraiser — through which Lower School and Middle School parents were offered the opportunity to order pre-packaged school supply kits online — was a great success, selling a total of 200 boxes and raising $711.21. Read More

Athletic Director Steve Engebretsen offers reminders about the athletic information phone line and DA's no-pets campus, as well as an update on winter schedules. Read More

 

Innisbrook fundraiser rolling along

The Innisbrook fall fundraiser is in full swing! Durham Academy Parents Association's 2014 fall fundraiser began Sept. 2 and will run through Monday, Sept. 22. One of Parents Association's biggest fundraisers of the year, this program offers parents the opportunity to purchase unique giftwrap and fun gifts and support the school at the same time. Read More
