Big Green Women Take Sixth at Indoor Heps in New York

NEW YORK – The Dartmouth women were sixth at the 2017 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championship held at The Armory in Manhattan.

Harvard won its fifth straight team title with 125 points.

SCORING
-       Freshman Cha'Mia Rothwell won her second individual event championship of the weekend by taking the top spot in the final of the 60m hurdles in record time. The rookie from North Carolina ran an 8.30 to not only win the event and 10 points, but beat the all-time Ivy League record of 8.33 that had been set 17 years ago by Brenda Taylor of Harvard. The second-place finisher on Sunday was Cornell's Brittany Stenekes more than a fifth of a second back in 8.54.
o   All six individuals in the scoring were freshmen.
-       After winning the long jump in impressive fashion on Saturday and becoming the first ever Dartmouth champion in the event, Rothwell was named the Most Outstanding Female Field Performer during the post-meet awards presentation.
-       Additionally, Rothwell was fourth in the final of the 60m, running a 7:52 and earning four points.
o   For the weekend, Rothwell contributed 24 individual points to Dartmouth's team total of 62.

-       For the second year in a row, senior Helen Schlachtenhaufen was the winner of the mile. Schlachtenhaufen won a close race in 4:46.25, besting second-place Meredith Rizzo of Yale by a little less than a second.
o   In winning the 2017 mile, Schlachtenhaufen keeps the event title in Hanover for the sixth year in a row (Abbey D'Agostino: 2012, 2013, 2014 / Dana Giordano: 2015 / Schlachtenhaufen: 2016, 2017)

-       Freshman Claire Dougherty was sixth in the 500m final, running a 1:14.90.
-       Schlachtenhaufen and Dougherty were also part of the women's DMR that was second in 11:26.21 along with Aliyah Gallup and Eliza Dekker. An incredibly fast race, the top-five teams all smashed the meet-record time.
-       Both the 4x800m (9:01.59) and 4x400m (3:54.27) relay teams picked up a point with respective sixth-place finishes.
-       Freshman Shanthi Hiremath was sixth in the triple jump with her sixth and final jump measuring 38-1.5/11.62m.
-       Bridget Flynn was sixth and garnered a point in the 800m with a finishing time of 2:11.01.
