Brick & Brew Athletes of the Week - Rothwell & Stocek

Indoors and outdoors, Big Green athletes are making names for themselves in their respective sports. Freshman Cha'Mia Rothwell is well on her way to re-writing the women's track and field record book with two record-setting performances at the Armory. Senior Fabian Stocek kicked off the 2017 Ski season with a win and a second-place finish, leading the Big Green to a win at the St. Lawrence Carnival.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Cha'Mia Rothwell, Fr., Durham, N.C., Jumps/Hurdles, Women's Track and Field

The Dartmouth rookie sensation continues to impress and make people take note early in her career with another remarkable effort for the Big Green women's indoor track & field team. Running at the Armory in New York — home of this year's Ivy League Championship — Rothwell not only won three individual events, but also did so while battling strep throat that caused her to seek treatment after the meet. Despite battling this condition, Rothwell managed to win the 60m hurdles, the 60m and the long jump, breaking Dartmouth program records in the last two in the process. Her 6.20m in the long jump broke her own record of 5.95m set two weeks ago and makes her the only Dartmouth woman ever to go beyond six meters.  The 7.45 in the final of the 60m was also a new record and just the third time ever a woman in the green and white had gone sub-7.50.

Fabian Stocek, Sr., Jilemnice, Czech Republic, Men's Nordic Skiing

Senior Fabian Stocek started the 2017 carnival season off well by winning the classic sprint races on Friday, then took second the following day in the 10K Freestyle as Dartmouth swept the podium stand. The victory was the second of his career and he now has eight podium finishes in his career. Stocek's performance over the weekend helped the ski team win the St. Lawrence Carnival by 131 points over Vermont, the largest margin of victory for the Big Green in five years.
