Brick & Brew Athletes of the Week - Rothwell & Opperman

First event in a career at Dartmouth and competing in the final season of a career, this week's athletes are representing the Big Green from both ends of the spectrum. Freshman Cha'Mai Rothwell won three events in her first track meet at Leverone field house. Senior Grant Opperman scored his first goal of the season for the men's hockey team.

Their efforts are rewarded by being named the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week.

Each week, DartmouthSports.com will spotlight two outstanding student-athletes - one male, one female - as the Hanover Brick and Brew Athletes of the Week. Student-athletes may be chosen based upon their efforts both on and off the field of competition.

Cha'Mia Rothwell, Fr., Durham, N.C., Hurdles/Jumps, Women's Track and Field

Making her home debut at Leverone Field House, Rothwell proved to be the top performer of the meet on Saturday against UNH and Maine. The freshman won three events, taking the top spot in the 60m, 60m hurdles and the long jump. In winning the 60m hurdles, Rothwell also set a Dartmouth school record by crossing the line in the final heat in 8.56. Not only did she win both sprint finals, but was also the top qualifier in their respective preliminary heats as well. Her 19-1.50/5.83m in the long jump was also nearly two-feet better than the second-place jumper.

Grant Opperman, Sr., Wayzata, Minn., F, Men's Hockey

Opperman finally broke through with his first goal of the season in Dartmouth's 5-1 home win against visiting in-state rival New Hampshire Saturday night at Thompson Arena. For the second year in a row, Opperman notched his first tally of the season in early December at the expense of the Wildcats as he netted a power-play goal early in the third period to put the home team up four. He also notched an assist on the first goal of the game, giving him his first multi-point game of the season.
