DURHAM, N.C. – A day after earning ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors, redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing has been named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week.
Blazing received the accolade after guiding Duke to road victories at No. 10 Boston College and No. 17 Boston University over the weekend.
In Friday's 2-1, come-from-behind win at Boston College, Blazing and the Duke defense held the Eagles to the lone score on 17 shots. The Durham, N.C., native posted eight saves for her second-highest total on the season. Two of her stops came on a final Boston College penalty corner opportunity at the end of the contest.
Blazing recorded her second shutout of the season Sunday in a 1-0 overtime win over Boston University, keeping the Terriers off the board for all 83 minutes of action.
Blazing has led the Blue Devils to a 10-3 mark on the fall, and owns a 1.21 goals against average and a .789 save percentage to rank among the top goalkeepers nationwide. In addition, she has surrendered just one goal in the squad's last four contests (281 minutes).
Fourth-ranked Duke makes the short trip to Chapel Hill Friday evening to take on the third-ranked Tar Heels. The Blue Devils then travel to No. 18 James Madison Sunday.
