Cavaliers Athletics News
At Friday’s ceremony, a half-dozen DA seniors will make official their plans to compete in college: Will Cooley (diving, Columbia University), Evelyn Guyer (lacrosse, Lafayette College), Peter Morano (soccer, High Point University), Kyla Newkirk (lacrosse, Howard University), Evan Pfeil (track and field, Davidson College) and Karson Yon ’24 (soccer, University of Minnesota).
It’s tourney time! We are excited for the postseason to begin, and there are opportunities for you to catch our volleyball, girls tennis and boys soccer teams in state tournament action at home this week.
BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS! The girls golf team clinched its second consecutive state title Tuesday thanks in no small part to Jenna Kim ’27, who repeated as the individual state champion. Buoyed by standout performances from Saia Rampersaud ’25 and Chloe French ’25, the Cavaliers won by a staggering 61 strokes, while Kim humbled a golf course that was set up specifically to challenge her mettle.
At Durham Academy, we play to win.
But winning isn't just about the numbers on the scoreboard. It's about the life lessons learned over the course of the season. The drive to improve practice after practice. The responsibility student-athletes have to their teammates and coaches. The grace they show to competitors, regardless of a contest's outcome. The creativity and resilience required to balance rigorous academics and high-level athletics.
These lessons can lead to state championships and college athletic scholarships, of course. But they also help prepare all of our student-athletes for life.
