Global Online Academy

Durham Academy is a member of Global Online Academy (GOA), a consortium of leading independent schools from around the world whose programs offer our students a way to pursue their passions, learn with peers from around the globe, and acquire and practice modern learning skills that will serve them well in college, career and life.

GOA schools develop the strategies and tools to lead innovation, and GOA faculty design rigorous learning experiences focused on cultivating relationships, sharing diverse perspectives on global issues and encouraging a passion for learning. GOA courses equip students with the skills, strategies, and tools to be successful modern learners.

GOA courses are our courses, taught by experienced faculty from DA and renowned peer schools all over the world. This is a new kind of online class in which relationships and connections drive students to share their perspectives and learn from those of others.

DA faculty also participate in GOA's world-renowned professional learning programs as they seek to continuously improve their practice as modern educators.

About Global Online Academy

The mission of Global Online Academy is to reimagine learning to empower students and educators to thrive in a globally networked society.

Global Online Academy member schools

There are nearly 150 high-performing independent schools from across the U.S. and around the globe. A few partner schools include Lakeside School in Seattle; International School of Beijing in China; The Blake School in Minneapolis; The Dalton School in New York; King's Academy in Jordan; and Albuquerque Academy in New Mexico. All GOA courses are taught by teachers who are currently teaching at a GOA member school.

About Global Online Academy Courses and Teachers

Students take GOA courses for credit at Durham Academy. GOA course workload and course intensity is equivalent to courses taken on our campus. Unlike many online courses, students are not passive receptors of pre-recorded lectures from their teachers. Instead, students collaborate on challenging and interesting projects with students from around the world. They are also expected to manage their workload and time effectively to support the asynchronous nature of the courses.

GOA maintains excellence through rigorous teacher training, building on the best practices and values of leading independent schools — and by ensuring classrooms stay at a small size that fosters strong teacher-student relationships and student-to-student collaboration and interaction.
