PREREQ: Completion of Intermediate High Spanish or above

Spanish-language semester electives offer students a unique opportunity to grow their language proficiency and increase their cultural competency while immersing themselves in specific and focused topics. Throughout this semester course, we will delve into the intricate histories of Chile and Argentina, celebrate the diverse cultures of the Southern Cone, and explore the ongoing pursuit of justice. While we explore complex topics like Operation Condor and the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, students will experience the sounds and flavors of the region as we craft an immersive and hands-on experience. Here, students advance their language proficiency through the study of authentic resources, class discussions, writings, and investigative projects, and also cultivate critical thinking abilities and foster leadership skills through the tradition of Tertulia. The class is taught exclusively in Spanish, and students are expected to use the target language at all times.
