PREREQ: ADV Community-Based Research
This course will provide a structure for students to build and implement the projects they began in ADV Community-Based Research. Projects will be grounded in research, problem-solving, creative thinking, scholarship, and real-world application. A typical week will consist of two class meetings. The first will be dedicated to each student’s independent work on their project. This time could be used to travel off campus in order to visit with community partners or conduct interviews. Alternatively, it could be used to meet one-on-one with the course instructor. The second class meeting will be dedicated to peer-to-peer and teacher-to-peer workshopping of projects. During these workshops, students will have an opportunity to reflect, seek feedback, troubleshoot challenges, and bring questions to the group. Student reflection will be a critical aspect of this course. The culminating event will be a symposium at which scholars will authentically demonstrate their learning to the wider community by presenting their project. Teachers, administrators, mentors and community partners will all be invited to this event.
