PREREQ: Teacher recommendation advised

In this ADV-level semester-long course, students will examine literature that engages with issues such as climate change, public health, economic inequality, and social and racial injustice. Through close reading, analytical writing, independent projects, and seminar-style discussions, students will investigate how contemporary texts both reflect and shape cultural conversations and social change. In addition to studying modern novels, students will read, analyze, and evaluate works of literary scholarship to deepen their understanding of critical debates surrounding texts. This is a discussion-driven course: students will be expected to arrive each day prepared with insightful, text-based questions and to contribute meaningfully and consistently to a rigorous, inquiry-focused classroom community.
