This one-semester course introduces students to the interdisciplinary field of data science with a rigorous focus on advanced statistical methods, computational techniques and real-world applications. Students will analyze large, diverse real-world datasets to identify patterns, make predictions and quantify uncertainty using programming languages such as R or Python and other advanced statistical software. The curriculum includes visualizations, descriptive statistics, statistical simulation and a variety of statistical tests and models. Throughout the course, ethical considerations in data analysis and decision-making are discussed, and students develop skills in constructing coherent, persuasive narratives around data.
