Visual Arts Exploration 5–6

The visual arts component of the fine arts Explorations for fifth and sixth grades is a trimester study of the elements of art and principles of design, including a look at how other artists use these concepts in their art. Assignments are designed to encourage creative thinking and experimentation with a variety of media. Students complete all projects with an entry in a digital portfolio. Including photographs of their work in progress, the finished work and an artist statement, reflecting on their experience. The course is intended to build skills, vocabulary, an appreciation for the creative process and connect the arts to daily life. A traditional portfolio of each student’s art comes home at the end of the trimester.
