This past week, the Cavalier fall sports have proven that they are here to compete in the postseason. Four of our varsity sports have won TISAC conference titles, including girls golf which finished in first place on Tuesday with a score of 254, beating Cary Academy by 8 points! Four of our varsity sports also earned a top 4 seed in the state tournament, a bye in the first round and the privilege to host their quarter-final match-up!

We are looking forward to cheering on our girls and boys cross-country teams as they head to the TISAC championships today in Raleigh, and we hope to see loyal DA fans at all our venues this afternoon and tomorrow evening to support the Cavs to state quarter-final victories!

The boys cross-country team defeated Ravenscroft 44–16 on the road last Thursday. The Cavs’ top five finishers were Ryan Norris in first, Bennett Dombcik in second, Sebastian Lascola in third, Lee Anderson in fourth and Tharindu Fernando in sixth.

The girls cross-country team defeated Ravenscroft and St. Mary’s by more than 25 points in a tri- meet last Thursday. The top five finishers for the Cavaliers were Claire Middleton in first, Anna Catherine Wilson in second, Stella Stringer in third, Fran Pacchiana in fourth and Abby Goldman in 12th.

Both cross-country teams will race for the TISAC championship at WakeMed Park this afternoon!

Field Hockey

Cavs field hockey wrapped up its regular season competition with a convincing 7–0 win over Ravenscroft on Friday night! Sophomores Emmie Savarino and Talbot Waters scored two goals a piece in the first half to give DA the 4–0 lead. Junior Katherine Lantzy found the back of the net at the start of the second half to extend the Cavs lead to 5–0 over the Ravens. Senior Hannah Grant connected with classmate Elizabeth Owens in front of the net to make it a 6–0 game with just 2:45 remaining. Senior defender Meredith Cohen scored her first career goal in the final two seconds of the game to close out the Cavs’ regular season. With the win, DA earned the title of undefeated TISAC conference champions and they earned the #4 seed in the state tournament.

The Cavaliers will host Covenant Day in the state quarter-finals this afternoon at 4:15 on Moylan Field.

The girls golf team had an outstanding TISAC championship victory on Tuesday afternoon at Croasdaile Country Club! The girls won the title by 8 points over Cary Academy, 254 to 262. Ninth-grader Ona Lukes scored the lowest for the Cavs with an 80, and seventh-grader Saia Rampersaud scored the second lowest with an 85. Ninth-grader Kayley Kim, junior Lydia Norman and eighth-grader Evelyn Guyer came in at 89, 96 and 97 to help the Cavs win the title. Lukes and Rampersaud were named to the All-TISAC girls golf team! The Cavs will return to the green for the state tournament next week in Pinehurst.

Upper School Golf 2019

Cavs soccer ended its regular season with two big wins last week. On Thursday, DA defeated Wesleyan Academy 1–0 at home. On Friday the Cavs beat Greensboro Day 4–0, as senior Ryan Kirschner led the way with all four goals. Kirschner’s first goal came just minutes into the first half, and in the second half junior Charlie Robb assisted Kirschner’s second goal.

Kirschner earned a hat trick in the second half off a penalty kick to extended the Cavs’ lead to 3–0. With 15 minutes left in the game it was Robb, again, who found Kirschner for the fourth and final goal of the game. The Cavs ended the season with five straight wins and an 11–4–1 record overall. DA soccer was 7–1 in conference, earned the #2 seed in the state tournament and will host Covenant Day in the quarter-finals at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The Cavalier tennis team completed an undefeated regular season going 17–0 with a 9–0 win over St. Mary’s on Friday night! The Cavs used 8–0 doubles sweeps by senior Alexis Galloway and Madeline Towning on one and Taylor Hunter and Isabella Strauss on three to jump to a 2–0 lead. The team lost  only two combined games in singles and with that, added to its streak of 36 consecutive wins as a team. DA earned the #1 seed for the state tournament and will host Cary Academy this afternoon at 4:15 in the quarter-finals!

DA volleyball concluded the regular season with five straight wins, including a 3–0 win over St. Mary’s on Friday night.
