Plug In, Listen Up for Weather and Emergency Communication

In the event of a school closing or schedule change due to inclement weather or a school emergency, Durham Academy will communicate this information to families in a number of ways.

  • An email and text message will be sent to all faculty, staff and parents based on information listed in the Veracross database. Please check your Veracross profile to make certain your contact information is listed correctly.

  • A pop-up announcement will be posted to the homepage of the Durham Academy website (www.da.org).

  • School closings or delays will also be announced on the school's X (@DurhamAcademy) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/DurhamAcademy) accounts.

  • School closings or delays will be announced on the following stations: WTVD (ABC 11), WRAL (NBC 5/FOX 50), WNCN (CBS 17) and News 14 Carolina (Spectrum News). Each station’s website also contains closing/delay information provided by area schools.

  • For delayed openings, division directors will follow up the initial delay announcement with an email further outlining arrival/dismissal times, the day’s schedule and any after-school event cancellations.

  • Whenever possible, the decision to close or delay will be announced by 11 p.m. or by 5:30 a.m. if a storm begins in the late evening or very early morning.

Our school draws from a large area. If a child lives a long way from school, we urge parents to use their own best judgment concerning whether to send a child to school or pick them up before the normal dismissal time.
