Parents Association Grants Faculty Wish List Requests

When Durham Academy Parents Association pulls out its magic wand each year to grant teachers’ requests via the Faculty Wish List, teaching, learning and play are enriched in meaningful ways.

While Parents Association has had to adjust its budget this year due to the impact COVID-19 has had on fundraisers, the Wish List is an important priority for the parent group, and several wishes have been granted for 2020–2021:

  • Preschool curriculum extension materials (including multicultural figures for play, a sand and sensory table, and a dollhouse)

  • A utility cart for the Preschool, allowing for more mobile setups to accommodate COVID-safe learning

  • An adjustable rolling desk for the Preschool, to accommodate outdoor lessons

  • Outdoor umbrellas for tables on the Preschool playground and in the Upper School Quad

  • Books for Lower School classroom libraries (including Bob Books and decodable books)

  • Resources for a pilot author/illustrator study on Kadir Nelson

  • A futon and child-size swivel chair for the Preschool/Lower School infirmary

  • Books and props for Middle School Spanish classes

  • Credits to purchase digital activities for hybrid teaching of Middle School Spanish classes

  • Materials for Middle School students to create bottle trees based on language arts text
