After a strong regular season by Durham Academy varsity teams, the Cavs are headed into postseason play! Here is an update to this week’s schedule and how you can cheer on and follow the Cavs in their run for state championships. We join only three other 4A schools (Charlotte Latin School, Charlotte Country Day School and Providence Day School) in having five seeded teams competing this week.

Over the next few days, Durham Academy athletics will host four state tournament events. While general public tickets cost $7 (www.da.org/athletics/tickets), all DA students, faculty and staff will be admitted free of charge to these events (please sign in at the ticket table). We hope you can come out to support our teams!

Today at 4:15 p.m., the No. 8 seed varsity girls soccer team will host Cannon School on Moylan Field. Head coach Susan Ellis’ team has come on strong late in the season, winning four of their last five to head into the postseason with a 6–6 record. This game will be livestreamed. A win will mean a trip to play top seeded Charlotte Latin on Saturday for a state quarterfinal match. Time and livestream info for that match is yet to be announced; check www.da.org/stream for details.

The five seed conference champion boys lacrosse team will head to Charlotte on Friday to battle four seed Charlotte Country Day. The Cavs claimed a share of the conference crown with a thrilling 6–5 win at Ravenscroft School on Friday, and head into this matchup 10–5 on the season. The 5 p.m. game will be livestreamed.

The TISAC (Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Conference) champion girls lacrosse team will host conference rival Ravenscroft on Alumni Field at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The 10–4 Cavs are seeded fourth and swept the conference with a 6–0 record, including 20–5 and 19–3 wins over the Ravens. This game will be livestreamed.

On Saturday at noon, the 18–4 varsity boys tennis team (seeded the No. 3) will host a state quarterfinal match vs. No. 6 Providence Day, Wesleyan Christian or Wake Christian. The Cavs eked out a 5–4 win over Providence Day a few weeks ago in Charlotte.

On Saturday afternoon (time TBA) DA’s conference champion varsity baseball team will host a state quarterfinal game. The Cavs are seeded No. 3 and go into the game with a 16–3 record. They will play either No. 6 seed Cary Academy, Providence Day or Charlotte Country Day. The game will be livestreamed. As soon as the opponent and time are confirmed, DA athletics will post an update at da.org/athletics.

The girls and boys track teams are competing this weekend in the TISAC championships at Cary Academy. Meet info and results will be posted online. In last week’s final regular season meet, the DA girls defeated Cary Academy 97.5–34.5, while the Cavalier boys fell 84–52 to the Chargers.

While DA’s softball team is not competing in the postseason, we want to give a huge shout-out to the girls and coaches for returning to competition after two years off! There is a strong foundation there, and we are looking forward to the growth of this program next season!

Finally, the DA varsity boys golf team competed on Wednesday in the state regionals in Greensboro. (View scores from regionals online.) Needing a team finish in the top four to advance to the state finals, the Cavs came just two strokes short, placing them in a tie for sixth with a score of 314. Junior William Chapman and eighth-grader Tate Duensing each had strong scores that will qualify them for the individual tournament next Monday in what will be head coach Greg Murray’s final coaching event in his legendary career.
