|  |         | Ward Nye ’81 to receive Durham Academy’s Distinguished Alumni Award
Durham Academy will honor Ward Nye ’81 as its Distinguished Alumni recipient on April 12 at the Spring Alumni Reception. Nye attended Durham Academy from seventh through 12th grades. He graduated from Duke University with honors in 1984, and in 1987 he received his law degree from Wake Forest University. Nye is president, chief executive officer and a board member of Martin Marietta Materials, Inc.

  | DA grad Jared Anderson releases his first solo album, Carolina Calls
Releasing an album is nothing new for 2012 Durham Academy graduate Jared Anderson, who’s now a freshman at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Anderson did an album with The Verge, a band he helped organize when he was a DA student. But releasing an album as a solo artist is new territory, and that’s what Anderson has done with Carolina Calls. The album came out in early December and features eight songs written and performed by Anderson.

      | Fall Alumni Weekend 2012 brings Cavs together
Durham Academy welcomed alumni and friends back to campus for Fall Alumni Weekend Oct. 12 and 13. The festivities kicked off Friday night with an Alumni Pregame Social sponsored by Big Boss Brewery (Andrew King ’86 and Geoff Lamb’86). More than 125 alumni and their families gathered to grab a bite to eat and to exchange stories. After the social ended, the crowd moved to Alumni Field to cheer on the varsity boys soccer team in its homecoming match.

  Homecoming is Friday, Oct. 12
Join alumni, families, friends and faculty at Durham Academy’s annual homecoming events on Friday, Oct. 12, at the Upper School athletic fields. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with moonwalks and Only Burger, Pie Pushers, American Meltdown and Local Yogurt food trucks. Please note that “DA charge” cannot be used for dinner purchases this year. Over 400 alumni, students, faculty and parents turned out for homecoming last year, and we expect another great event on Oct. 12.

 Blazing '11 helps U.S. squad to third-place Junior Pan-Am finish
In her first international field hockey competition, 2011 Durham Academy alumna Lauren Blazing made her presence known, helping the Under-21 U.S. Junior Women's National Team to a third-place finish in the Junior Pan-American Games and to a berth in the Junior World Cup.
