 | Middle School
Honor is a matter of cooperation with the community and all its members. In order to progress as individuals and as a group, we must develop trust between one another — trust among students, trust among faculty and trust between the two. Durham Academy wants to stress the importance of developing this trust and the community responsibility that we have to one another. Striving to build this attitude of trust will help to establish the foundation of a personal code of ethics that is one of the major goals of our Middle School. Lying, cheating and stealing are three specific behaviors that will not be tolerated. A community cannot successfully exist and flourish when these three behaviors exist within its members.
Upper School
In order to insure that an atmosphere of freedom and integrity shall prevail at Durham Academy Upper School, the students accept the responsibility of instituting and upholding an honor system. We believe that an atmosphere of truth is basic to the system of cooperation and mutual respect on which Durham Academy is founded. While attending Durham Academy, each student must realize the importance of his/her own honesty and integrity.
Honorable conduct must pervade all facets of student life. Violations of this conduct through cheating, lying, stealing or misrepresenting a situation are a violation of trust and of the Honor Code.
