SOCK Camp Serving Our Community's Kids
SOCK Camp is a one-week summer camp that provides a unique, interactive, and free summer experience for elementary age children who would not normally have the financial means to attend a summer camp. The camp was founded in 2006 by Brennan Vail, Samantha Leder, Mary Elizabeth Lovelace, and Ashley Braiser (DA Class of 2008). New members are elected each year. The current SOCK leaders are Chris Brasier, Cameron Simpson, Elizabeth Parry, Ally Arocha, Constance Leder, Jordan Townsend, Lily Ronco and Alexi Kontos.
The camp draws its participants from Hope Valley and Forest View Elementary Schools in Durham. The counselors are all members of the DA Upper School community.
Each day during the week of camp is centered around a fun theme, with games, crafts and field trips that correspond with the theme. Lunch is donated every day by a local restaurant, and transportation is provided by Durham Academy if needed.
The group of students who are organizing SOCK Camp this year hope that this Web page will be a resource for anyone who wishes to be involved with the camp, from campers to counselors.
