For more than 20 years, fifth- and sixth-grade Durham Academy students have played intramural sports. This is a weekly after-school opportunity for advisories to have fun, be active and play other advisories in three team sports.
Both grades play volleyball in the fall. The first game is in mid-September. In the winter, we host a one-day track and field event; this year's event is scheduled for Dec. 6. In the spring, the fifth-grade students play softball, and the sixth-grade students play kickball. There is some teaching of skills, but fun, good sportsmanship, and students' bonding with their advisory are the primary goals. All teams are coed, and each advisory fields a team.
All games are played after school between 3:10 and 3:45 p.m. All fifth-grade games are played on Tuesdays. The sixth grade games are played on Wednesdays. Schedules are given to all players prior to each season so parents can plan accordingly. Parents can also find schedules for all seasons on this page.
