2010-11 DURHAM ACADEMY PARENT VOLUNTEER FORM

The Parents Association consists of all parents and guardians of students enrolled at Durham Academy. Our community relies on the generosity of each and every one of you who volunteer your time, talents, and creativity: In short, WE NEED YOU!

Please review the following and let us know of your interests by filling out your contact information and checking your areas of interest. When you have finished, click "Submit" and your information will be sent to our Parents Association Volunteer Coordinator, Lori McCain. Throughout the year we will be sending emails asking for help on these and other events.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

ACADEMY NIGHTS

This successful adult education and enrichment program offers the community a wide range of classes and workshops held for six weeks in January and February. Profits benefit financial aid endowment at DA.

Recruiters (August through October: Help recruit teachers for the classes.)

Editors (Late October - early November: Help proof a section of the course catalog. This is a great for someone to do from home.)

Office Help: Fit your schedule! Work with other volunteers for morning shifts from 9:00 am - noon or a portion thereof. (December - February- Answer phones and register enrollees.) You do not need to commit to an ongoing schedule.

Evening Greeters (January - February: Greet and sign in the "students" as they arrive on DA's campus for their courses.) Sign up for one of our various nights depending upon your schedule.

Publicity/Marketing (Support efforts to publicize Academy Nights through the Durham/Chapel Hill community. Help distribute catalogs.)

ALUMNI & DEVELOPMENT OFFICE

Annual Fund Volunteer (Help with solicitation of parents and alumni for Annual Fund Gifts during the fall and spring phonathons.)

Special Projects (Help as needed with special projects and mailings.)

ANNUAL BENEFIT AUCTION (February 26,2011)

Leadership team: Jean Bethea, Angie Duty, Lori Evans, Margaret Jones, Kristin Teer and Janis Tillman

Acquisitions (Work with Acquisitions Chairs to solicit auction items that are historically donated as well as new items)

Advertising (Help to secure ads for the event program from new and previous advertisers)

Decorations (Plan and decorate the venue to enhance the event’s theme)

Student Projects (Coordinate and execute projects for Middle School students)

Tuition Raffle (Help with sale of tuition raffle tickets)

Invitation and Program Design (Help with design process and mailings)

Auction Night Volunteer (Oversee silent auction bidding on auction night)

USED BOOK SALE (April 7 - 10, 2011; Lisa D'Amico and Kim Leversedge)

Book Collector (Pick up books from collection bins weekly (depending upon fullness) and deliver at your convenience to the sorting site.

Sorting (Sort books at the Middle School storage area as needed throughout the school year)

Bake Sale Volunteers (Coordinate donations from the DA Parent Community. Set up and sell baked goods during school hours)

Cashiers & General Volunteers (Assist for a shift on the sale days. Weekday and weekend times available.

All School Picnic (Sept. 26) (Help to plan the event and/or work a shift)

DA Night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (Help with administrative tasks in a social setting such as stuffing envelopes or distributing tickets) Spring 2011

New! Night at the Hurricanes. Help to organize DA at the Carolina Hurricanes for this new family night of fun!

Turkey Trot Fun Fun (Chair: TBD)

NEW! Help kick off DA's First Annual All-School Turkey Trot Fun Run, scheduled for Saturday, November 20th. Pre-race organizers and race- day volunteers needed! A 5K race and 1K fun run will be held.

USED SPORTING GOODS SALE

Help advertise/promote, collect, sort, price, sell and donate to the Used Sporting Goods Sale

Upper School International Day (Wednesday, April 20, 2011)

Prepare food, serve or set up/clean up for the Upper School faculty/student lunch-time feast.
