Event Recap:The DAJV boys won their fourth in a row, a tight two point overtime win over Riverside High. The Cavs used hot shooting as they were 12-17 from three point range including Toby Harris' 7-10 for 21 points. Harris is now shooting 51% from three point range on the season and averaging 19.0 ppg. The Cavs used four of those threes in the first period to hang tight with the Pirates and trail by four. Harris and Brent Randleman hit big shots late in the half and the game was tied going into the break. Randleman had another strong game with 15 points and four blocks including some key rejections in overtime. After Riverside scored first to take the lead in the second half, the Cavs would go on a 14-4 run to lead by 8. After the Pirates cut the lead down to five at the end of the period, the Cavs would use two more Harris threes and a FT by Randleman to take their largest lead of the game at 50-40. The Pirates would claw their way back in the game scoring the next 11 points over 2:33. 8th grader Nik Graves hit two clutch free throws with 2 minutes to go to put DA back up one. Graves finished with 12 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. The Pirates would briefly take the lead before a Christopher Chaves putback and 1-2 from the line had DA up two. Chaves had six points, a team-high four rebounds and three assists. Riverside would score to tie the game and a last second attempt from the Cavs missed. In the overtime session, Randleman's two free throws followed by a Graves floater put DA up three. Randleman and Will Staples (five points, three rebounds, team-high five assists) would each go 1-2 and the Cavs were up 5. After a late Riverside three, DA hung on for the win.
