Event Recap:The DA boys basketball team shook off another poor start to rally for a 69-61 key 3A win over Hickory Grove Christian at NRCA. The Cavs are now 2-0 heading into Saturday afternoon's showdown with Southlake Christian, also at NRCA. Once again, it took the Cavs a while to get going on the offensive end as DA had seven turnovers in the first five minutes of the game. The Cavs trailed for the majority of the first half including by as many as seven at 22-15 midway through the second period. A late first half run capped by a Michael Savarino corner three at the buzzer gave DA a 31-26 lead at the break. The third period went back and forth, but DA had an answer for every Hickory Grove basket. The Lions had a stretch in the third period where they made 8 of 9 baskets to take a two point lead, but a Bryant Randleman three at the third period buzzer put DA back in front 46-45. The fourth period was about Cavalier foul shooting and a great job of getting easy baskets breaking the press. In all, DA went 23-34 from the line and 9-10 in the final period. Senior Tyler Carpenter had his second straight big game as he scored nine of his 11 points in the fourth quarter. Randleman scored a team-high 20 points and pulled down six boards while Mendys finished with 16 points. Savarino had 13 and four boards while Jack McCallie had four points, six rebounds and five assists.
