Event Recap:

The DA girls tennis team broke two long losing streaks to Cary Academy Wednesday night in Cary.  After a strong 3-0 doubles sweep, the Cavs then took 4 singles wins including a tremendous comeback from Madeline Towning on court 2 to beat Cary 7-2.  The win breaks a nine-match losing streak to the Chargers and is the first win for the Cavs in Cary in over 14 years.  Cary had won 15 of the previous 16 in the series.  After being dominated in doubles play by the Chargers over the past few seasons, it was the Cavs turn to jump out to an early lead.  On court 1, sophomores Madeline Towning and Alexis Galloway survived an opening game loss that went to seven deuces and were able to open up a big lead and take an 8-3 win over T. Timinskas and Ellison.  On court 2, Joy Callwood and Renee George jumped out to a 5-1 lead before seeing the Chargers duo of N. Timinskas and Hasund battle back to 6-3.  The DA duo had four game points to go up 7-3 but CA saved all and battled back to 6-6.  Callwood/George survived and won the last two games for an 8-6 win.  On court 3, the captain duo of Nicole Riepl and Julia King trailed early to Sanchez/Moorhead.  Trailing 4-5, Riepl and King ran off the final four games for the 8-5 win and the 3-0 doubles sweep.  Singles play was very tight as each team took 3 first sets.  The Cavs were able to close out the team match with a 6-2, 6-2 win by Riepl on 6 and a 6-2, 6-1 by Galloway on 3.  After Sanchez gave CA their first point, a 6-1, 7-5 win over Taylor Hunter on 5, Towning pulled out her epic win.  After losing the first set 6-1, she rallied for a 6-4, 10-4 win on 2.  George secured point number 7, a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ellison on 4.  In the final match, T. Timinskas, an all-stater took down Callwood 6-4, 6-2.  The Cavs are now 7-1 and 2-0 in league play heading into tomorrow's TISAC match with Wake Christian
