Volunteer Center honors 39 DA students for community service

Thirty-nine Durham Academy students and alumni were recognized for their community service efforts at the Volunteer Center of Durham Tomorrow's Community Leaders ceremony Sept. 28, comprising more than 15 percent of the youths who were honored in the county. The program recognized students who earned Hard Corps Awards, Mayor's Awards and President's Volunteer Service Award, as well as those who served on the center's Student Action Board. Several DA students were recognized with more than one award.

Thirty-three DA students earned Mayor's Awards, which are given in recognition of at least 100 hours of community service during the summer with local nonprofits registered with the Volunteer Center. The following students earned Mayor's Awards for service completed during the 2015 summer break:
