| Celebrating the legacy of former Headmaster Bob Johnston This week, Durham Academy learned of the passing of Robert “Bob” Johnston, headmaster from 1969 to 1977. During his time at DA, the school launched its Upper School program, built the Ridge Road campus, graduated DA's first senior class, established the Hill Center and funded the school's first scholarships. Mr. Johnston worked to ensure that DA was not aligned with any of the area's segregationist schools, setting the school on a path to become the vibrantly diverse community it is today. Lower School posts yellow ribbons in support of teacher's spouse When P.E. teacher Beth Roberts arrived at the Lower School on Thursday morning, she was greeted by yellow ribbons at the door of every classroom. The ribbons are in honor of Brandon Roberts, her husband of just eight months, who left early Wednesday for a nine-month deployment to Iraq with the U.S. Army. Read More Ultimate Frisbee team finishes regular season undefeated For the second year in a row, Durham Academy Middle School's Ultimate Frisbee White team is flying high after an undefeated regular season, and the team hopes to catch a couple more victories at this weekend's 12-team regional tournament. Read More Science Olympiad team takes seventh place in Ithaca Invitational The Durham Academy Upper School Science Olympiad team was put to the test in more ways than one as part of the Inaugural Cornell Invitational on Jan. 24 in Ithaca, N.Y. The team hit the road early Friday morning to make the 12-hour trek to the land where snow and science converge. The team placed seventh of 22 teams overall, with seniors Nathaniel Brooke and Abhi Kodumagulla placing in every single event they entered. Read More
