Photography teacher earns

N.C. Arts Council Artist Fellowship

Durham Academy Upper School photography teacher Harrison Haynes has been awarded a North Carolina Arts Council Artist Fellowship for 2014-2015. Haynes — who will use the $10,000 fellowship in his work with display photography and video installation — is among just 18 artists in the state to be selected for the honor.

The fellowship means "having the money to meet the very high costs of printing, framing and installing my artwork," Haynes said. "And by (partially) alleviating the burden of those overhead costs, I'll be able to focus more on the conceptual soundness, the quality and the overall long-term advancement of the work." Read More

Students strengthen bonds,

form new memories on trips

From bonding around campfires to rappelling from cliffs, Middle and Upper School students found plenty of opportunities for forming lifelong memories during last week's class trips. Now that they're all safe and sound back home, we invite you to take a look back on their travels through photos graciously shared by faculty chaperones. View galleries from all overnight trips on Flickr, and view several hundred photos of the sixth-grade class trip to Camp Cheerio courtesy of teacher Patti Donnelly.
