DA Wins N.C. Family-Friendly 50 Award

Durham Academy is known as an outstanding Pre-K through 12 independent school, but it's also an organization committed to supporting its faculty and staff as working parents. DA supports employees' commitment to their families and their communities, and is dedicated to helping faculty and staff balance often-competing demands of work and family life. Middle, Upper Schoolers venture out on class trips

School is in session, but Durham Academy fifth through 12th graders weren't necessarily doing their learning on campus this week. Early in the school year, Middle School and Upper School students traditionally head off for class trips that take them as far away as Georgia and Alabama and as close by as Wake County. Students and alumni often say the class trips are among their most memorable DA experiences. Read More

On Tuesday, September 2nd Durham Academy will kick off its 2014-15 strategic planning process with an online survey emailed to all DA parents, faculty, staff and alumni. Your participation is vital in helping DA plan its future. This is your chance to share your ideas about what matters most to you about Durham Academy and help identify the key goals and issues that will propel the school forward in visionary ways. Diversity Committee Hosts 2nd Annual Back to School Social

With the new school year just kicking into gear, the Preschool and Lower School Diversity Committee is hosting it's 2nd annual "Back to School Family Social in the Park." Families will be able to reconnect with old friends as well as forge new friendships. Lower School teachers Mr. Mason and Mrs. Chandler will be organizing group games, so wear your athletic shoes! Derek Rhodes '11 Scores Summer White House Internship, POTUS Photo Op

When a photo like this hits the Communications office Inbox, we've just got to know more! Derek Rhodes is a Durham Academy alumnus and currently a senior at Duke University majoring in Public Policy with double minors in Political Science and Spanish.

This summer, Derek was selected to serve in the prestigious and highly competitive White House Internship Program, where he was lucky enough to cross paths and chat with none other than the President of the United States. We asked Derek for a behind-the-scenes description of his VIP encounter and life working at the White House. Read More
