Cutcliffe urges DA graduates to leave

the world better than they found it

Under a canopy of towering oak trees in an Alabama park, Duke University football coach David Cutcliffe learned a valuable lesson as a child, he said at Durham Academy's 41st commencement exercises Friday. After an afternoon of playing, he and his five siblings had sprinted back to the family's 1952 Chevrolet upon hearing their father's whistle, ready to go home — but they were stopped in their tracks by their father as he surveyed the landscape.

Three Cavs help represent N.C. at

U.S. Lacrosse National Tourney

Three Durham Academy students were among 18 athletes who represented North Carolina at the U.S. Lacrosse Women's National Tournament from May 23 to 24. Junior Leander Perun and sophomores Madi Dunk and Hannah Pope were chosen from more than 70 players who tried out. Read More

 

Eighth-graders' essays, poetry

earn praise and awards

Several Durham Academy eighth-graders have earned accolades over the course of the school year for their poetry and essays.

"I think that it’s really important to provide kids with an authentic audience for their creations," said eighth-grade language arts teacher Ben Michelman. "The opportunity to move other people is extremely powerful and gives our work real purpose (unlike the artificiality of grades). Read More

perform at Kenan a cappella show

An evening of a cappella music promises to be a perfect exam study break or family outing on Saturday night, as DA a cappella group XIV Hours will be joined by three other acclaimed groups — including headliner The Funx — on the stage of Kenan Auditorium.  Read More

 

Fundraiser to offer opportunity to

order new year's school supplies

Durham Academy Parents Association is pleased to again offer parents a simple way to purchase school supplies for the upcoming school year: the School Tool Box fundraiser. Through this service, parents of first- to eighth-graders can order pre-packaged school supply kits — containing the exact items that DA teachers have recommended — online and have them shipped to their front door in time for the first day of school. Read More
