Safe Home Initiative

Durham Academy endorses the goals of the Safe Home Initiative, a national, voluntary program supported by many public and independent schools throughout the country. The Safe Home Initiative affirms the importance of providing a safe and healthy environment for the social gatherings of young people, and it serves to encourage parents to communicate with each other about youth parties. It is not intended to be a legal document. The Safe Home Initiative is, in essence, a commitment on the part of parents to the following:

1. To supervise youth parties in their home.
2. To not knowingly allow youth parties in their home when they are not present.
3. To neither serve nor knowingly allow alcohol or illicit drugs to be consumed by guests at youth parties in their home.
4. To communicate with other parents regarding social gatherings.

All parents share a common hope for the safety, good health and well-being of our children. Durham Academy's commitment to the goals of Safe Home Initiative affirms this hope. The school appreciates the work of the Parents Association and the interest of many Durham Academy parents in creating safe and healthy social opportunities for our young people, and we encourage all Durham Academy parents to actively support the goals of Safe Home Initiative.

Please read and discuss the Safe Home Initiative with your children. Please communicate with anyone on the list or in our community about social events that your child(ren) might be attending. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact one of us or Amy Daubert, parent representative and Safe Home Coordinator, at amydaubert@me.com.

Warm Regards,
